What is an Esthetician!?
My definition of an Esthetician is a philosopher who specializes in the nature of beauty. Someone who has acquired special skills in giving Beauty Treatments, the person is devoted to, or professionally occupied with the health and beauty of skin. Since the skin is the largest organ of the human body the esthetician may perform services ranging from facials, to body treatments, such as body polishes, and salt glows just to name a few, to hand and foot treatments.
Over the past decade, Estheticians has evolved from a minor role in the beauty industry into a variety of specialized services/treatments offered in elegant day-spa, full service salons, and wellness centers. In my opinion there are TWO types of Esthetians; the first one is “the fake it to you make it” esthetician, now this type of esthetician is just going through the routine. They will pamper you, massage you, and make you feel good. The second esthetician gets results, using whatever esthetic treatment, technology, and products necessary to get the desired results. This Esthetician has done the homework, they have gone above and beyond, and this type Esthetician will give you the bang for your buck! This type Esthetician knows more than basic skin care skills, but also cosmetic chemistry, makeup, and business skills. This Esthetician has an in depth understanding of skin anatomy and skin disorders, as is the ability to communicate effectively with clients.
Estheticians provide preventive care for the skin and offer treatments to keep the skin healthy an attractive. They are trained to detect skin problems that may require medical attention; however, unless an esthetician is also a licensed dermatologist, he or she cannot prescribe medication or give medical treatments.
Some things you should look for when having a consultation with an Esthetician:
- The Greeting/Introduction: Establish Credibility: the therapist should introduce him/her self. It is very important to establish some physical contact to break the initial barrier, a professional handshake is appropriate.
- The Consultation/Open-ended questions: the therapist should go over your chart and talk with you about any concerns you may have and get an understanding of what the client wants to accomplish.
- The Treatment: during the treatment the therapist should let the client know what is being put on the face, body and why in a soothing voice and in a way that does not require a response from them. As the facial or body treatment is taking place the therapist is finding the problem areas and will perform the necessary treatments to restore healthy skin.
- The Closing: the therapist should always ask, “how does your skin feel’!? Now is the time for therapist to make her recommendations and get you set up for your next appointment. The recommendations will be based on the finding/conditions of the skin cited during the facial. The most important thing is to consult with any Esthetician before the initial touching of the skin. Communication is very important and serves as away to seek understanding. Freely ask your Esthetician any question you may have and expect her to know it and or be able to resource the information. A good Esthetician is your best friend and may provide you with the best benefits from your Spa experience. Ask a family member, a friend, but do your homework. It will be well worth it. Good Estheticians are not sitting around; they are usually booked and come highly recommended. Choose Wisely!
So Which Type of Esthetician Will You Choose!!!
What you don’t know before having a Bikini Wax can really HURT you......OUCH!
Before you go in and have it ripped-off, here’s what you need to know!
What are the different types of bikini waxes!?
Though there always seems to be a new waxing style that the industry is buzzing about, there are really only three major types of bikini waxes.
- 1. The Brazilian Wax: Everything in the Bikini area from front to back is removed. Sometimes called the “sphynx”. The buttocks area is waxed. .
- 2. The French Wax: The entire Bikini area is waxed except for a thin triangle or strip on the top. The buttocks are not waxed.
- 3. The Traditional Wax: Is the most simple bikini wax and involves the removal of hair that might show while wearing a bikini. The waxing starts at the insides of the legs and end just a little farther in from the bikini line.
Ask the Aesthetician to explain each style of waxing as terminology will vary slightly depending on the spa/salon.
How much does it cost!?
- Prices may vary depending on spa/salon location.
- Please note “cheap” isn’t always best when it comes to bikini waxing. It is invaluable to spend the extra for an appointment with a safe, clean, professional who is licensed and experienced.
What will it feel like!?
- Avoid waxing during your period and two days prior or after your period, skin is more sensitive then. Aim for morning waxing appointments as waxing tend to be easier to deal with when the body has had less time to stress.
- The wax will feel very warm; but should never be hot, when applied. The Aesthetician will remove the wax with a quick pull; you will feel some discomfort, expect it to sting. You may experience minimal bleeding, after the wax is removed; this can happen after ripping off the wax.
- Your skin might be tender afterwards for up to 24 hour, but you should never feel extreme discomfort after you leave the appointment.
What to do before hand!?
For best results make sure the hair is at least a quarter of an inch long (about the length of a grain of rice), if it is longer you should trim it. This is of utmost to ensure smooth, long-lasting results. Successful waxing is only possible when hair is grown out to the appropriate length and not to long. With high-quality wax and a skilled Aesthetician, your skin shouldn't need much after the appointment. However, you may want to apply a post hair removal product to minimize the occurrence of ingrown hairs, and waxing rash, in this sensitive area.
What to expect!?
- The Aesthetician should be wearing gloves. She should be confident, pleasant and relaxed. Do your homework and check her experience and training.
- If it’s tough to get an appointment with your Aesthetician because she is so popular, that is a good sign. Avoid caffeine before the appointment.
- If you are concerned with the intensity of redness or are feeling uncomfortable call the salon they should have you come in and take look, or after the service, call the salon.
- If you experience a lot of pain that does not quickly subside; or if there is any sort of injury, call your doctor, immediately.
- The service can last anywhere from 15 to 30 minutes depending on the waxing style.
Get the information you need to make informed decisions about your waxing service, ask questions and do your homework before having it “Ripped- Off”.

Tip 1: Embedding Video into Your Blog
To embed a video like the one above, you'll need to do the following:
- Most video sites like YouTube have an "embed" source code that you can copy and paste. For YouTube, this code is listed just to the right of the video itself, under a person's username.
- Open up the HTML Editor in HubSpot by clicking the "HTML" button in the toolbar. Then, paste in the source code at that point of the article you'd like the video to show up.
- Save! This tip will work on the rest of the CMS as well, not just in the blog. Just click on "Add Module", and add an HTML module. You'll be able to paste in the source code directly, and the video will exist as a stand alone module on your site.
Tip 2: Automate Your Social Media Publishing
If you use the HubSpot blogging platform, then we'll be able to automatically publish your content for you. To set up Social Media Publishing, complete the following steps:
- We need to add your social media credentials before we can automate your blog publishing to their feeds. Under the Promote tab, open up HubSpot's Social Media application.
- Click the "Social Media Accounts" button. When prompted, add your credentials for the social media sites you'd like to publish to.
- Once your credentials are entered, head back to your blog's homepage and click on the "Options" link (to the right of the "Create Article" link).Your blog options will appear.
- Click on the Social Media Publishing tab. Under Social Media accounts, check off the boxes of the social media feeds you'd like your blog to publish to automatically. Remember to click "Update" at the bottom of the screen.
- When publishing content to your networks, you’ll need a line of explanatory text to let people know what they’re seeing. To write this line, write your slug in the "publishing slug" field, directly above the list of your social media acccounts. This is the text that will appear in Facebook and Twitter along with a link to the blog article. For example, you might write "Check out my new blog post!"
Tip 3: Text Formatting 101
You can edit the fonts of your website by going to Settings > Template Configuration in HubSpot, and then click on "Advanced Configuration". Throughout this list, you'll see places where you can change the font of your different headers.
One caveat to this, however: The fonts you can use on a website are dependent on the fonts that are available on a visitor's machine. If you try to name a font that the user does not have on their computer, it will default back to something standard (usually Arial or Helvetica).
Most machines are preinstalled with dozens of fonts, so the trick is knowing which fonts are likely to be installed on which computers. For a list of the fonts supported on most browsers, view this article on Success.
