What you don't know before having a bikini wax can really hurt you...

What you don’t know before having a Bikini Wax can really HURT you......OUCH!

Before you go in and have it ripped-off, here’s what you need to know!

What are the different types of bikini waxes!?

Though there always seems to be a new waxing style that the industry is buzzing about, there are really only three major types of bikini waxes.

  1. 1.     The Brazilian Wax: Everything in the Bikini area from front to back is removed. Sometimes called the “sphynx”.  The buttocks area is waxed. .
  2. 2.    The French Wax: The entire Bikini area is waxed except for a thin triangle or strip on the top.  The buttocks are not waxed.
  3. 3.    The Traditional Wax: Is the most simple bikini wax and involves the removal of hair that might show while wearing a bikini. The waxing starts at the insides of the legs and end just a little farther in from the bikini line.

Ask the Aesthetician to explain each style of waxing as terminology will vary slightly depending on the spa/salon.

How much does it cost!?

  • Prices may vary depending on spa/salon location.
  • Please note “cheap” isn’t always best when it comes to bikini waxing.  It is invaluable to spend the extra for an appointment with a safe, clean, professional who is licensed and experienced.

What will it feel like!?

  • Avoid waxing during your period and two days prior or after your period, skin is more sensitive then.  Aim for morning waxing appointments as waxing tend to be easier to deal with when the body has had less time to stress.
  • The wax will feel very warm; but should never be hot, when applied.  The Aesthetician will remove the wax with a quick pull; you will feel some discomfort, expect it to sting.  You may experience minimal bleeding, after the wax is removed; this can happen after ripping off the wax.
  • Your skin might be tender afterwards for up to 24 hour, but you should never feel extreme discomfort after you leave the appointment.

What to do before hand!?
For best results make sure the hair is at least  a quarter of an inch long (about the length of a grain of rice), if it is longer you should trim it.  This is of utmost to ensure smooth, long-lasting results. Successful waxing is only possible when hair is grown out to the appropriate length and not to long.  With high-quality wax and a skilled Aesthetician, your skin shouldn't need much after the appointment.  However, you may want to apply a post hair removal product to minimize the occurrence of ingrown hairs, and waxing rash, in this sensitive area.

What to expect!?

  • The Aesthetician should be wearing gloves.  She should be confident, pleasant and relaxed.  Do your homework and check her experience and training.
  • If it’s tough to get an appointment with your Aesthetician because she is so popular, that is a good sign.  Avoid caffeine before the appointment.
  • If you are concerned with the intensity of redness or are feeling uncomfortable call the salon they should have you come in and take look, or after the service, call the salon.
  • If you experience a lot of pain that does not quickly subside; or if there is any sort of injury, call your doctor, immediately.
  • The service can last anywhere from 15 to 30 minutes depending on the waxing style.

Get the information you need to make informed decisions about your waxing service, ask questions and do your homework before having it “Ripped- Off”.

So What You Now Know about Waxing, Want really hurt you...!
